Home / Automatic Doors / ChickenGuard Low Battery Warning After New Batteries? Check This First
If your ChickenGuard still shows a low-battery warning after you just changed the batteries, do not assume the opener is faulty. ChickenGuardu2019s current guidance says the warning is voltage-based, so the next step is to verify the batteries, not reset the door.
Replace all four AA batteries with a matched set of fresh alkaline cells, check polarity and confirm the unit is receiving enough voltage. ChickenGuard says a new set should provide about 6V total, while the warning appears around 5V. One weak cell can keep the warning active even when the batteries came from a new package.
ChickenGuardu2019s battery warning is based on measured voltage. That matters because u201cnewu201d does not always mean every cell is delivering a healthy 1.5 volts. A single weak battery, mixed set or incorrect orientation can leave the opener below its expected supply voltage.
ChickenGuard door openers use four AA batteries. On some models, two are easy to see while another two sit lower in the battery holder. Replacing only part of the set can leave the unit underpowered.
For standard battery-powered ChickenGuard units, use fresh AA alkaline batteries. Do not mix chemistries, ages or brands within one set.
Each negative end should contact the spring in the battery holder. One reversed battery can prevent the set from delivering the required voltage even though the compartment looks full.
ChickenGuardu2019s support guidance says a healthy new set should provide around 6V total. On supported models, check the displayed battery voltage in Misc Settings. If the reading is already near 5.3V or lower, try another genuinely fresh set.
The Power or Torque percentage shown while the motor moves refers to motor effort, not remaining battery percentage.
A low-battery warning does not automatically mean the door needs recalibration. If the door barely moves after the change, see our ChickenGuard battery-change troubleshooting guide.
If multiple verified fresh sets produce the same low-voltage behavior, a battery box, connector or front-panel issue may need further diagnosis.
A fresh four-battery set should be around 6V total.
On supported ChickenGuard units, it is a battery warning and should be acted on promptly.
