Home / Automatic Doors / ChickenGuard LUX Reading Shows “Err”? Fix the External Sensor Setting
If your ChickenGuard shows “Err” when you try to take a LUX reading, the controller is usually looking for an external light sensor that is not connected. This is a settings problem, not automatically a failed built-in sensor.
Go to Misc Settings and set Ext Light Sensor to No. On some 2023 units, that option is in the Secret Menu instead. After switching it off, return to LUX Adjustment and take another reading.
ChickenGuard’s current support guidance says this error appears when the opener is configured to use an external light sensor. Because no external sensor is connected, the controller has nothing to read and shows “Err” instead of a number.
Wake the screen, enter Settings and navigate to Misc Settings. Find Ext Light Sensor and change it to No.
If you cannot find the option in Misc Settings, ChickenGuard says some 2023 models place it in the Secret Menu.
Exit back to the normal menu and take a new light reading. A healthy internal sensor should now return a numerical LUX value rather than “Err”.
A valid number that is obviously too high or too low is a different issue. See our light-sensor placement guide and the manufacturer’s Light Sensor Help steps.
The documented fix is to disable the external-sensor setting unless you actually have the required hardware.
No. ChickenGuard says it usually means the controller is looking for an external sensor.
No. It returns the opener to its internal sensor.
