Home / Automatic Doors / ChickenGuard Door Ajar Error: Why It Retries and How to Clear It
A ChickenGuard Door Ajar message means the opener detected an obstruction or too much resistance while moving the door. The unit may retry several times before escalating to a Door Error.
Clear the doorway, clean the rails, check for overtightened screws and confirm the door is aligned correctly. Recalibrate after fixing the resistance. On Mark-5 openers the Door Ajar Sensor can be disabled, but ChickenGuard says not to disable the safety feature on All-in-One models.
The Door Ajar Sensor is designed to detect an obstruction while the door opens or closes. A chicken in the doorway can trigger it, but so can dirt, misalignment or a frame distorted by overtightened screws.
Check for birds, bedding, feathers, stones and ice. The system may retry the close cycle automatically, so clear the obstruction before testing.
Dirt can create enough drag to look like an obstruction. Clean the full travel path rather than only the visible section.
If the error disappears when the unit is off the coop but returns after remounting, the frame may be distorted. Slightly loosen mounting screws and retest.
Once the door moves freely, perform a fresh calibration so the controller relearns the correct travel.
ChickenGuard allows the Door Ajar Sensor to be disabled on certain Mark-5 models. However, the company explicitly says the All-in-One safety feature should not be turned off.
If repeated retries still encounter resistance, the opener can stop and show Door Error or Door Obstruction. Use our ChickenGuard Door Error guide if that happens.
Yes. Winter resistance in the runners can trigger the sensor.
Fix dirt, alignment and mounting pressure first. Do not disable the All-in-One safety feature.
